I received the following email. Can you help me answer the question?
Father Charles,
As you know, the Gospel reading for the 1st Sunday of Christmas, in the Episcopal Church, is John 1. However, in the Revised Common Lectionary, the RC lectionary and even the new Church of England lectionary, this gospel is used in years with a 2nd Sunday of Christmas . All these lectionaries proscribe the flight to Egypt in year A, the presentation in year B, and the finding of Jesus in the temple in year C. What was the rationale used by the Episcopal Church to be different from the rest of Christendom in this choice?
Thanks
